Social media brought my attention to the Hygiene Bank. I was horrified about the number of people living without basic household essentials from toiletries to cleaning products. It was whilst researching & preparing a list of ‘essential’ baby items for my impending arrival that I became aware of the cost of baby products & found an article about a mother who would not change her baby as regularly as she would have liked in fear of not being able to keep her son in nappies. She would clean out a nappy in the hope of getting more use out of it & would not buy any sanitary items or hygiene products for herself but instead buy basic creams & baby soap for her child instead when she could afford to or IF she could afford to.

Basic hygiene shouldn’t be considered a luxury but sadly to some it is, I’d heard of food banks but hadn’t even considered that people would also of course not have the funds to buy basic hygiene products.

I’m getting involved with the hope of encouraging more people via social media to donate to The Hygiene bank. I like the idea of picking out items I would use myself & doubling up when I do a supermarket shop & I like knowing what I have picked out & bought is going directly to someone.
