“The Hygiene Bank is such an amazing movement to be part of!”
Community is at the heart of everything we do at The Hygiene Bank. We believe in building stronger, resilient communities by working together to shape a more just society.
It’s why our national charity is powered by over 200 local projects, rooted in the communities they support and driven by local need.
Our projects come in all shapes and sizes and reflect the diverse nature of the communities they support. From larger projects that have several volunteers and support multiple Community Partners; to smaller projects that support a few key partners, we champion them all.
As a national movement, we coordinate, nurture, sustain and champion this network. We provide logistical, grant application, product and comms support to our local projects, empowering them to be indispensable community resources and advocates for meaningful change.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing the work of these unique community projects, celebrating their achievements and exploring their insights into hygiene poverty in the UK.
We are starting with one of our newest projects, The Hygiene Bank Aberdare, which only although not even a year old, has already distributed over 951kg of hygiene essentials!
Meet Team Aberdare
The Hygiene Bank Aberdare was set up in July 2022 by social worker Lucy.
Through her day job, Lucy has always known the detrimental effect that poverty has on people’s wellbeing.
But seeing how the cost of living crisis increased local poverty rates, she was motivated to push back and turn empathy into action:
