“We can usually tell if a family is struggling financially because parents can’t afford things like laundry detergent, deodorant, or even toothpaste. Sadly, it becomes obvious when children aren’t wearing clean clothes or they haven’t been able to brush their teeth. It really affects their confidence and their ability to learn if they feel ashamed of the way they look and smell.

To be able to have these toiletries from The Hygiene Bank for our students helps them feel confident in themselves, and it means their parents don’t have to make a choice between food vs hygiene products for the family. Thank you so much.”

A teacher from a Community Partner in Manchester

A donation of £2,000 is enough to provide toothbrushes and toothpaste to every child in a school, so they can look after their teeth and feel confident.

The difference your gift could make:

Dental problems are the leading cause of hospitalisation among children in the UK. Not having access to toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental care products leads to poor oral health, cavities, tooth decay -even infections and lost teeth, which will have a lifelong impact on children's lives.

Your kindness could provide a toothbrush and toothpaste to every child in a school, giving them the confidence to feel clean and go to school.

This Christmas, give the gift of kindness to a whole school.

Where does my donation go?

Your donation will help The Hygiene Bank distribute basic hygiene products to people who would otherwise struggle to afford them.
The Hygiene Bank receives product donations from members of the public and from collaborating brands and retailers. Donated products are then distributed via our 170 local projects - which are entirely run by our volunteers- to our network of 1600 Community Partners, who pass them on to people who need them most. Our Community Partners are schools, food banks, community centres, homeless shelters or womens’ refuges, among others.

We keep expanding our network, especially in areas where our support is needed most. The demand for our services keeps increasing due to the cost of living crisis, and we cannot supply products to our network with donated products alone.

The Hygiene Bank uses funds from campaigns like this one to:

  • Buy products that people need that are not donated. This can include products that are not donated often and/or for people with people with specific needs – e.g. skin conditions, continence problems.
  • Cover the costs of transport and storage to get donated products out to our local projects and store them safely until they are distributed to our Community Partners people who need them.
  • Other necessary expenses involved in supporting and sustaining a national network of local projects, activities to attract more volunteers, train volunteers, and raising the funds needed to attract more donors, and more product donations, so local projects hubs continue to receive enough products for the people who need them.
